Guy Lauzon was born in St. Andrew’s West, Ontario, a small community rich in history and tradition. His family’s roots in the region stretch back to the 19th century, reflecting a longstanding commitment to the local community and its development. Growing up amidst the rural landscapes of Ontario, Lauzon developed a deep appreciation for community values, hard work, and service—principles that would define his future endeavors.
Before entering the political arena, Lauzon dedicated over twenty-two years to the federal public service, demonstrating a commitment to public administration and governance. His leadership extended beyond his official duties; he served as a local union president for the Public Service Alliance of Canada, advocating for workers’ rights and fair labor practices.
During the 1990s, Lauzon engaged actively in community service, serving as chair of the United Way campaigns for the Human Development Resource Centre (HDRC) and supporting multiple sclerosis research funding initiatives. Following his retirement from the public service in 1993, Lauzon transitioned into the private sector, becoming the general manager of Tri-County Protein, a soybean processing plant located in Winchester, Ontario. Lauzon’s political journey began with a run in the 2000 federal election as the candidate for the Canadian Alliance in Stormont—Dundas—Charlottenburgh. Although he finished second behind incumbent Liberal Bob Kilger, his determination set the stage for future campaigns. The political landscape shifted dramatically when the Canadian Alliance merged with the Progressive Conservative Party in 2003, forming the Conservative Party of Canada.
In the 2004 federal election, Lauzon ran as a Conservative candidate in the newly configured riding of Stormont—Dundas—South Glengarry. Demonstrating significant support, he secured a decisive victory, garnering nearly 4,000 votes more than his nearest rival, incumbent Bob Kilger. His election marked the beginning of a dedicated parliamentary career rooted in representing his constituents’ interests.
